Upgrades give you boosts in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of the item upgrader kit by +3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

The upgraded gear typically has a higher trade value as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or very high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the need to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from NPCs of item upgraders for a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any weapon, tool or armor. button, which will display a preview of the item at its next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and the current item level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Upgraders for items are available in many places including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and the chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be used on gear of a specific rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the type or gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level. This could be by engaging in outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in all difficulties to get equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. The new currency system isn't difficult to use, however it brings some changes to the upgrade process.
