How to Replace an audi keyless entry G28 Engine Speed Sensor
Charles the Humble Technician shows how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located near the transmission's edge over the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is situated on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also where the camshaft lies so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

This means that the Crank Shaft is not in alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumped chain link in the upper chain of timing. It can be a bit difficult to test since there are various pins on the connector, and each one has different functions. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read about 1000 ohms when it is operating at its maximum. 2. Injectors
Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at a high speed I noticed a significant decrease in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, 3 were drenched in gazoline, the fourth was dry. I put a piece of tissue over each injector hole and when i start the engine with no sparks, the three with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one remains shut. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ i get zero ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is elsewhere.
I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start if the G28 is unplugged and is running fine when it is plugged in but it still has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even if it is not plugged in, shows a temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is zero.
I'm not sure what to do, as i feel i have pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. I'm afraid i may have missed something. Let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find the spare in a salvage shop or a parts store. Testing them is easy to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's side). They should be infinite Ohms.
4. ECU
Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that has to know the position and speed of the crankshaft to make a decision about timing of the fuel injector, for example. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you are experiencing issues with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could lead to an engine shut down.
Some of the signs of a malfunctioning G28 sensor are an inaccurate gearbox rev counter, gears shifting quicker than normal, and/or a misfire when in gear. If you are experiencing any of these issues it is likely your sensor is failing and should be replaced. The good thing is that they are quite affordable and readily available, especially in the case of the Bosch sensor, like ours. Alternatively, GM's version of this part is an option.
5. Tachometer
A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a number of problems within your vehicle. It's a crucial component of the transmission of your audi key replacement cost, as it transmits information to the ECU regarding how fast or slow the engine of the car is turning. If the sensor fails, it could affect the performance of the transmission as well as the rest of the car's components.
The G5 engine sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. It sends signals via a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU is then able to process this signal to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost as well as transmitting it to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can test for sensor failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should detect an average resistance of 1000 ohms between these two points.
